Hello. Day 3. Welches to Kah-Nee-Ta Resort. 65 miles. 4,904 Feet of climbing.
Before reporting on today, here’s the video of our ride from St. Helens to Welches.
Left Welches at 7:00. 50 deg, Mt Hood shrouded in low clouds. But as we approached our first rest stop, it began to clear. So glad the riders got to see the top. Here’s Alistair and Chris (who is blind), ascending on their tandem.
From our rest stop at Government Camp, we had a long swooping descent, followed by ups and downs through the forest. Then, almost all of a sudden, we were in high desert.
We turned off to the Kah-Nee-Ta Resort and had a spectacular ride with views to Mt Jefferson, the Three Sisters, and Broken Top. Capping it off was a delicious descent with a few switchbacks to make it even better.
We had one final climb—a short steep up to the hotel—with an 11% pitch.
All-in-all, a gorgeous ride.
My Garmin wasn’t working until one of the ride leaders debugged it, so I’m using Dave’s Relive video of our ride. For mysterious reasons it’s called evening ride.
BTW, thanks to Beverly Hills Lori for telling me that RAP stands for Rest and Repair. Portland Alison suggested Review and Preview.
