Miles in March ticked up, topping 1,000. And last Friday I had the longest ride in a year—81 miles. Felt pretty good, and I know it sounds crazy, but I liked being out in the storm of wind and rain. I love big weather.
But today, with 51 miles, it was a different story. It was tedious. I didn’t want to ride 50.
But I wanted to do two pretty long rides in close proximity, so 50 was on the agenda.
To ride or not ride, to go long or short are questions that shouldn’t be let in the house.
Eschew ambivalence. It’s a motivation killer.
Best just to follow the plan.
Twyla Tharp speaks to this in her good and helpful book, The Creative Habit.
For her, getting up at 5:30 and going to the gym is a ritual, not something to be debated.
She propels herself forward without doubt.
Anyway, today’s ride is behind me and thankfully, only a few rides are tedious.
Tomorrow: an easy day with 20-ish miles on the docket.
